Charles (Charlie) Martel
Assistant Professor of Lawyering
Teaching focus: Legal writing and Lawyering
Martel previously served as a visiting professor at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. In addition to his legal academic career, he has a rich experience in human rights advocacy.
After years in private law practice, he focused his work on human rights issues. He has served as pro bono attorney for Advocates Abroad, acting deputy director for Human Rights Watch, and investigative counsel to the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.
Michele Okoh
Assistant Professor of Law
Teaching focus: Criminal procedure and health law
Okoh previously served as a senior lecturing fellow at Duke University School of Law. She holds a masters degree in public health and recently received the Rebecca A. Head Award from the American Public Health Association (APHA) for being an “outstanding emerging leader in environmental health working at the intersection of environmental justice, science, and policy.” She has worked as a prosecutor and defense attorney in addition to her academic teaching positions.
Tabrez Ebrahim
Associate Professor of Law
Teaching focus: Property, patents, business law, and wills and trusts
Ebrahim previously served as an associate professor at California Western School of Law. He worked in private law practice, as well as in technology entrepreneurship, management, and engineering, before turning to legal academia. He has published papers on property theory, and has served as an executive committee member of the AALS Section on Property Law. He also serves as a board advisor to a real estate technology startup. A developing area of his research is the intersection of Islamic law and patent law.

Beyond the Bar
Most graduates of law school go on to practice law, working in law firms or providing legal counsel to organizations and businesses. Yet, for some, the lessons of law apply more broadly, and the outcome of their law school education has been a surprising and successful career outside of law. Here are just a few of our alums who followed an alternative route.
