First Endowed Law School Deanship in Oregon
Lewis & Clark Law School Dean Jennifer Johnson has been awarded the first endowed law school deanship in the state.
Lewis & Clark Law School Dean Jennifer Johnson has been awarded the first endowed law school deanship in the state, marking a significant milestone in the school’s 109-year history. The Jordan D. Schnitzer Deanship is the result of a multi-million dollar gift from Jordan Schnitzer; Lewis & Clark is the only law school in Oregon with an endowed deanship.
Schnitzer, a Lewis & Clark alumnus (1976), commercial real estate magnate, philanthropist, and internationally recognized art collector, established the endowed deanship to empower the dean to continue fostering and growing innovative programs that are nationally recognized for their excellence.
College President Emeritus Wim Wiewel and Dean Johnson expressed profound gratitude for Mr. Schnitzer’s extraordinary generosity. “We are deeply grateful to Jordan. With this endowment of the dean’s position, he has established a permanent legacy that will propel Lewis & Clark in its continued efforts to attract and retain qualified leaders of our law school. I am proud to be the inaugural Jordan D. Schnitzer Dean,” said Johnson.

Beyond the Bar
Most graduates of law school go on to practice law, working in law firms or providing legal counsel to organizations and businesses. Yet, for some, the lessons of law apply more broadly, and the outcome of their law school education has been a surprising and successful career outside of law. Here are just a few of our alums who followed an alternative route.
