To strengthen our commitment to underrepresented taxpayers, Rianka Macwan, ’24, is returning to LITC (where she was a student intern) as the recipient of the prestigious ABA Christine Brunswick Public Service Fellowship to increase the clinic’s outreach and work with adults in custody. Over the past two years, the LITC has received letters from hundreds of adults in legal custody seeking help to receive their missing Economic Impact Payments, (known as stimulus checks), before the statute of limitations on IRS refunds expired in May 2024. To date, the clinic has handled 72 such cases and provided many others with self-help materials so they could navigate the process independently.
