Earthrise

This year marked a bittersweet transition for Earthrise, as Earthrise Director and Clinical Professor Allison LaPlante ’02 left the law school after almost 20 years.

This year marked a bittersweet transition for Earthrise, as Earthrise Director and Clinical Professor Allison LaPlante ’02 left the law school after almost 20 years. Earthrise Managing Attorney Lia Comerford ’13 has stepped in to serve as acting director. Throughout the year, Earthrise continued its mission of training the next generation of environmental advocates through hands-on legal work, including matters seeking to improve water quality and protect aquatic species in Pacific Northwest and New England waters, and to protect large and old-growth trees in Oregon, Washington, and California forests. Clinic student Drew Baloga ’24, supervised by Clinical Professor Tom Buchele, argued a NEPA case before the Ninth Circuit, (see page 29) and Earthrise Legal Fellows Lydia Dexter ’23 and Haley Nicholson ’22 also presented arguments in federal district courts.
