GEI is thriving. Thanks to donor support, the clinic employed several top-notch law clerks to assist us in advocacy efforts at the Oregon Public Utility Commission and in developing climate policy. Utility rate cases, and other proceedings at the commission, have proven a useful venue to pursue emissions reductions in the electric sector and to halt subsidization of natural gas utility expansion. Additionally, director and staff attorney Carra Sahler ’02 is serving on two important climate-related rulemaking committees: one to advance a second Climate Protection Program, and another to adopt commercial building performance measures. GEI will bring on two new staff attorneys, effectively doubling the organization’s fire power, this fall.
