2024 Wyss Scholars Focus on Environmental Conservation

Hayden Wyatt, from Wyoming, brings a passion for public land conservation honed through grassroots activism and wilderness rescue work in Yosemite National Park. He interned this summer with Cascadia Wildlands, focusing on forest conservation.
Ian ConnollyIan Connolly, from Colorado, blends his background in human geography with a dedication to environmental justice and Native American law. His work with community nonprofits and legal externships underscores his commitment to preserving Western public lands.
Funded by the Wyss Foundation, a private, charitable foundation dedicated to land conservation, the Wyss Scholars Program seeks to identify and support a new generation of leaders on the basis of their leadership potential, academic strength, and commitment to furthering land conservation. Lewis & Clark is one of only a few law schools in the country selected for this program, and has been since 2017.
Speaking with students is one of my favorite parts of being dean. At Lewis & Clark Law School, I’ve discovered a rare and powerful combination: students who pair fierce dedication to their mission with deep collaboration and a genuine commitment to each other’s success.

Most graduates of law school go on to practice law, working in law firms or providing legal counsel to organizations and businesses. Yet, for some, the lessons of law apply more broadly, and the outcome of their law school education has been a surprising and successful career outside of law.
