The Green Energy Institute continues to propel forward progress on Oregon’s climate policies despite national pressure to undermine momentum. Working in partnership with community-based nonprofits, as well as climate and environmental organizations, GEI uses every opportunity to push our state and local governments to stop the expansion and subsidization of fossil fuel investments, while protecting vulnerable populations from rate hikes. Director and staff attorney Carra Sahler, ’02, and staff attorneys Alex Houston, ’21,Jamie Johnson, ’24, and Cole Souder, ’24 remain busy pursuing emissions reductions in the electricity and natural gas sectors, intervening in rate cases, recommending improvements to Oregon’s Energy Strategy, and squeezing efficiency and ratepayer protections from data centers. GEI’s many law clerks tackle the challenges alongside its attorneys.
