Alums who attended Northwestern College of Law in downtown Portland with Lewis & Clark College. (L to R): Bruce Rothman ’62, Dean Alicia Ouellette, Brad Littlefield ’69, Daniel Ellis ’69, Dave DeMartino ’63, Miles Sweeney ’66, Dick Maizels ’66, and Dick Stinson ’68.

Our history dates back to 1884 as Oregon’s first state law school. We established our independence from the public institution 31 years later, becoming the private Northwestern College of Law, an evening-only school whose faculty were all practicing attorneys and judges.

In 1965, we merged with Lewis & Clark College and took on our current official name: the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College. Soon after, we moved to our present location, a short walk from Lewis & Clark College’s undergraduate campus.
