Thank you Interim Dean John Parry!
True to his belief that Lewis & Clark Law School “builds great lawyers,” his leadership ensured both academic rigor and comprehensive practice preparation.

During his tenure as Interim Dean (August–December 2024), John Parry facilitated opportunities for faculty advancement, prepared the law school for its ABA site visit, and guided curriculum evolution to align with changes in bar exam and licensure requirements. His instrumental role in creating a pathway to unitary tenure for all faculty strengthened the law school’s academic foundation and community, and his efforts to provide additional experiential opportunities for students expanded vital hands-on course offerings.
Throughout the transitional leadership period and during particularly challenging times for legal education, Dean Parry provided steady guidance that kept the school moving forward. As the associate dean of faculty prior to his appointment as interim dean, he expanded the curriculum by implementing a wide array of specialized courses across diverse legal topics, enabling the school to offer exceptional breadth and depth in its academic courses. He also expanded experiential learning opportunities to enhance students’ practice readiness. Dean Parry provided meaningful participation in the Oregon State Bar’s efforts to establish alternative pathways to licensure. True to his belief that Lewis & Clark Law School “builds great lawyers,” his leadership ensured both academic rigor and comprehensive practice preparation. We are grateful for his contributions and service.

From the Dean
Speaking with students is one of my favorite parts of being dean. At Lewis & Clark Law School, I’ve discovered a rare and powerful combination: students who pair fierce dedication to their mission with deep collaboration and a genuine commitment to each other’s success.

Beyond the Bar
Most graduates of law school go on to practice law, working in law firms or providing legal counsel to organizations and businesses. Yet, for some, the lessons of law apply more broadly, and the outcome of their law school education has been a surprising and successful career outside of law. Here are just a few of our alums who followed an alternative route.
