Professors Put to the Test in “PILP 2025 Beat Jim and Janet Challenge”

The challenge raised significant support for PILP, helping fund summer stipends for students working in public interest law.

On March 14, 2025, Lewis & Clark Law’s faculty, staff, alumni, and students gathered at Griswold Stadium Track & Pamplin Gym for the “PILP 2025 Beat Jim and Janet Challenge.” Professors Jim Oleske and Janet Steverson went head-to-head with participants in five events: a 3,200-meter run/walk, push-ups, planks, chin-ups, and free throws.

With Professor Tung Yin serving as referee, the competition raised funds for the Public Interest Law Project (PILP), which supports summer stipends for students working in public interest law. The rules were simple: meet the challenge and the professors paid up, beat them and they paid even more—and if you managed to sweep all five events, Jim and Janet owed you dinner.

The event brought plenty of laughs, school spirit, and a healthy dose of competition—proving that while professors may rule the classroom, students, staff, and alumni can hold their own on the track and in the gym. Most importantly, the challenge raised significant support for PILP, helping fund summer stipends for students working in public interest law.
