Emeritus Professor Jim Dente, known for his exacting standards during his tenure at Lewis & Clark Law School, directed a substantial portion of his retirement savings to establish the endowed James Dente Scholarship for incoming students.

Professor Dente, who joined the faculty in the early 1970s, was remembered by his colleagues for his unwavering commitment to professionalism. In a tribute at his retirement, Professor Ed Brunet recalled how Dente’s Torts students were consistently challenged on “the issue.” “Jim’s high sense of professionalism would not tolerate a sloppy or less-than-perfect [statement].”

This new scholarship, planned long ago by Jim, ensures his legacy of excellence will continue to shape future generations of legal minds.
