Lewis & Clark Law’s Leo Levensin Award for Excellence in Teaching is an annual recognition for a full-time faculty member whose teaching has had a significant impact on students. Voted on annually by the graduating class, this award is named for a well-regarded former professor, distinguished attorney, and Oregon State Bar member.

This year, the 2025 Leo Levensin Award has been presented to Professor Juliet Stumpf. Among many other accolades, Professor Stumpf has held the Law School’s Edmund O. Belsheim Professor of Law Chair position since 2023, she has been widely published and recognized as one of the ten most-cited immigration legal scholars in the United States, she co-founded the transnational, interdisciplinary Crimmingation Network (CINETS) Conference, and she currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Innovation Law Lab. Award presenter, Krista Lewis, highlighted these accomplishments and more, explaining how Stumpf is “a professor whose intellect, commitment, and compassion have profoundly shaped not only the academic lives of her students, but also the field of law itself.”

Professor Stumpf herself highlighted the importance of work in this field in her acceptance speech, saying “For many members of our school the need to know the law is personal and it’s urgent. This community - our community - is not just watching or reading about current events online or in case books. It is impacting our friends, our families, ourselves.”
