NALSA Presents: David S. Case

NALSA invites all students to come and hear David S. Case speak on Alaska Native Law. He will illustrate the principle differences between the Indian law that governs Tribes of the “lower 48” versus the laws that govern Alaska Natives such the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. Of notable import will be Alaska Natives’ sovereignty, subsistence and land and resource ownership and control.
David S. Case, a partner in the firm of Landye Bennett Blumstein LLP., and is ranked by Lawdragon as one of the 500 leading lawyers in America, and Best Lawyers in America ranks him as one of Alaska’s best Native American law attorneys. He has taught Native law and governance at the University of Alaska in Anchorage and Fairbanks, and conducts tribal court and tribal government training for the National Judicial College and throughout the state.
David S. Case is an expert on Alaska Native law and policy. He often travels to remote Alaskan villages to advise clients on corporate, municipal, and tribal matters. He has drafted municipal and tribal codes tailored to meet the unique needs of rural Alaskan municipalities and tribes. In addition, Mr. Case has represented village corporations in complex land exchanges with the federal government and in other business transactions. David S. Case worked for the Alaska Federation of Natives and the Alaska Native Foundation from 1975 to 1978 and represented agencies of the United States Department of the Interior in the Alaska Regional Solicitor’s office from 1978 to 1982. From 1982 to 1984, he taught Alaska Native studies and political science at the University of Alaska Fairbanks
