The Public Interest Law Project will host its annual auction at the law school on Saturday, March 12, 2011.  Please save the date to celebrate our 20th year of supporting public interest law.  Our goal this year is to continue funding student stipends while significantly increasing our support to the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP).

PILP is one of the largest student-run organizations at the law school.  Last year, PILP raised $82,000 and funded 12 summer stipends.  Stipends are awarded to students who have been hired by local, national and international public interest organizations who could not otherwise afford to hire law clerks. Over the last 20 years, PILP has provided over 259 stipends to 135 organizations, with projects ranging from assisting refugees in Portland to promoting the preservation and protection of Yellowstone National Park.

In addition to providing stipends to students during law school, PILP is also committed to supporting young graduates as they begin careers in the public interest field.  This year PILP has pledged an increase in support for LRAP.   LRAP awards allow young attorneys to take on low-paying jobs while meeting their student loan burden, making it economically possible to continue working in the public interest after graduation.

The auction is a wonderful opportunity to visit the law school, connect with students and the legal community, enjoy an evening of fine food, drink, and fun, and support the important work of public interest law.  We hope to see you there!
