CLE Webcast - The Link Between Domestic Violence & Animal Abuse
Date: June 2 2011, 9:30am - 10:30am Location: The Web
Extensive research confirms the connection between domestic violence and animal cruelty. Studies show that batterers often use violence and/or threats of violence against animals to:
- Coerce family members to remain silent about abuse
- Prevent or punish a victim for leaving her batterer
- Psychologically control family members
In this one-hour webcast, Pamela D. Hart of Animal Legal Defense Fund and Megan A. Senatori of DeWitt Ross & Stevens will discuss:
- The research confirming the link between domestic violence and animal cruelty
- Protective orders and other legislative proposals designed to protect victims with pets
- The important role that lawyers can serve in stopping the cycle of abuse
Help your domestic abuse clients by understanding the link between pet and human abuse.
Also be sure to check out the SAAV Program, a nonprofit co-founded by Senatori and Hart providing services for victims (both human & nonhuman) of domestic violence.
