Shipping Books

The law bookstore does not ship books to students unless a title is unavailable for purchase online (e.g. out of print book, course packet, etc). Links to purchase directly from publishers are provided on each semester’s book list. If you feel you have exceptional circumstances, please reach out to lawbooks@lclark.edu.

Return Policy

The bookstore reserves the right to make decisions on the return-ability of purchased materials on a case-by-case basis.

The bookstore return policy is 7 consecutive days for all items regardless of when the bookstore is open. Books must be in original, brand-new condition.

All receipts must accompany all returns.

Credit card and debit card purchases will be refunded to the card used in the original purchase (some debit cards may require us to refund via cash or check). Personal check and cash purchases will be refunded in cash as it is available after the check clears the bank. Customers may be asked to wait for cash refunds on check and cash purchases.

Required class materials may be returned to the bookstore in their original, brand-new condition within seven (7) consecutive days after purchase, as shown by the date on the receipts. This policy applies regardless of when the bookstore is closed. Plan ahead.

If a class is dropped, the class materials may be returned to the bookstore with a signed slip from the registrar stating that the class was dropped. Returns for dropped classes must be in their original, brand-new condition and be returned within seven (7) consecutive days of dropping the course. This policy applies regardless of when the bookstore is closed. Used books purchased for use in a dropped course cannot be returned.

No books may be returned after the last day of classes (before finals begin) for the term regardless of time purchased. Absolutely no book returns during reading period/finals. All books purchased after the end of classes are final sale. Summer texts may not be returned after the first class meeting.

$5 study guides are final sale.

Defective books may be exchanged at any time, subject to availability.

ALL USED BOOK PURCHASES ARE FINAL.

Apparel still in new condition with tags attached may be returned with a receipt or exchanged for a different size of the same item at any time, subject to availability.

No appeals. No writs of habeus bookus.

Used Books Policy

  • Used books will be accepted in the law bookstore on the sale schedule announced ahead of each semester (both on the law bookstore website and via email sent to current students).
  • You must be a current Lewis & Clark Law School student or recently graduated (within two years) to sell used books on consignment.
  • Accepted books: Required or recommended books used during the current semester, as told by the current/up-coming book list.  Books must be the same edition as listed on the book list.  Study guides are accepted in the latest edition only (do not have to be on the current book list).
  • It is the seller’s responsibility to provide current, legible contact information on each used book form.
  • If books sell, proceeds (minus consignment fees) will be distributed to the seller based on the following schedule:  fall semester book proceeds begin payment in October,  spring semester book proceeds begin payment in February, and summer book proceeds begin payment in June.  Additional details and instructions about receiving payment will be emailed to you prior to issuing payment.
  • Proceeds will be direct deposited or mailed to the address on file with Lewis & Clark College. It is the seller’s responsibility to ensure the account and address are current.
  • For unsold books, the law bookstore will send at least one email reminder to the email address you provide to pick up unsold books. The email reminder will specify a deadline to pick up unsold books. The reminder email will come from lawbooks@lclark.edu after the closing of the used book period. Additional reminders may be sent at law bookstore’s discretion but are not guaranteed. Used books left after the emailed deadline will become property of the bookstore.
  • The Bookstore does not accept any responsibility for lost or damaged books. All items are left for sale at the seller’s risk.
  • The law bookstore reserves the right to refuse a used book for sale for any reason (typically this would occur if we already have too many copies of a particular title or if the book is heavily damaged).

A $7 consignment fee for required books on the book list and a $3 fee for study guides will be deducted for each item sold

How to Sell Used Books

Check the current book lists to make sure the book you want to sell is the current edition being used. Only required and recommended books to be used during the upcoming semester will be accepted. Study guides not on the current book list will be accepted in the latest edition only.

Bring your used books to the law bookstore during open hours. Obtain a Used Book Form for each book and fill it out neatly and completely (including the price you wish to offer the book for sale).  The law bookstore employee will provide you with a copy of the Used Book Form and prepare your used books to be sold.

If one or more of your books sell, proceeds from the sale of books will be distributed on the following schedule:  fall semester book proceeds begin payment in October, spring semester book proceeds begin payment in February, and summer book proceeds begin payment in June.

Proceeds will be mailed to the address on your Lewis & Clark College student account, or direct deposited if applicable. It is the seller’s responsibility to ensure the account and address are current.  Additional details and instructions about receiving payment will be emailed to you prior to issuing payment.
