Dr. Jie Lian (’20)

Jie Lian is an Associate at Klarquist Sparkman, LLP. He practices intellectual property law, with a focus on patent prosecution and advising clients on patentability and freedom to operate matters. He has extensive experience in many technical areas, including medical devices, mobile health, signal and image processing, wearable technology, database management, apparel and footwear, among others. He has been an IEEE Senior Member since 2005 and is the sole recipient of the 2019 Jan Jancin Award for intellectual property law.

Jie studied at the Lewis & Clark Law School as an evening student while working full time. While at the law school, Jie served as an evening student representative of the Student Bar Association, student outreach coordinator of the Intellectual Property Student Organization, Article Editor for Lewis & Clark Law Review, and volunteered as a peer mentor for 1L students. He also completed an externship at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. Jie was inducted into the Cornelius Honor Society.
