All other conference events, including panels and the Saturday evening banquet, took place at the Lewis & Clark Law School, located in the lovely southwest hills of Portland, OR. The address is: 10015 S.W. Terwilliger Blvd., Portland, OR, 97219-7799. Please note that the Law School campus is separate from the rest of the Lewis & Clark College campus. Recognizing the threat of global climate change and its potential to impact human and non-human animals alike, we have provided public transportation information below to help you get around Portland “carbon-lite:”
Airport to Hotel
It takes approximately 45 minutes by MAX light rail train to travel from the airport to downtown Portland and the Paramount Hotel. From the airport baggage claim area, look for signs for “Light Rail Tickets.” You can purchase a MAX train ticket ($2.35 to downtown) and get information about the train schedule in the airport lobby. The train runs approximately every 15 minutes to and from the airport.
To travel downtown from the airport, catch the MAX Red Line towards “City Center & Beaverton TC.” Exit the train at the Pioneer Square North stop which is located at SW Broadway and SW Morrison in downtown Portland. To get to the Paramount Hotel from that stop, walk along SW Broadway towards SW Yamhill Street. Turn right onto SW Taylor Street (one past SW Yamhill) and walk up one block to SW Park Avenue. The Paramount Hotel will be located on the left-hand side of the street at the corner of SW Taylor and SW Park.
To the Law School
Free Eco Shuttle buses were available for conference attendees running between the Paramount Hotel in downtown Portland and the Lewis & Clark Law School campus before and after the conference began on Saturday and Sunday. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to travel between the hotel and law school, depending on traffic. The shuttle schedule was as follows:

- Shuttles depart Paramount Hotel approximately every 20 minutes between 6:30 - 8:15 a.m.
- First return shuttle departs Law School at 8:15 p.m.

From Portland International Airport: Take I-205 south to I-84 west toward downtown Portland. Travel five miles on I-84 west and follow the signs to I-5 south toward Salem. Travel four miles on I-5 south and then follow the instructions below.
From I-5 southbound: Exit at Terwilliger Boulevard (#297). Stay in the right lane, which will circle back onto Terwilliger Boulevard. After passing over the freeway, stay on Terwilliger for 1.6 miles until you reach a roundabout. Take the third right off the roundabout; the main campus will be ahead on your left. Turn at the second entrance, marked Information, where you’ll find visitor parking.
From I-5 northbound: Exit at Terwilliger Boulevard (#297) and stay to the right. At the stoplight, take a right onto Terwilliger Boulevard. Stay on Terwilliger for 1.6 miles until you reach a roundabout. Take the third right off the roundabout; the main campus will be ahead on your left. Turn at the second entrance, marked Information, where you’ll find visitor parking.
To get to the law school, take the first right off the roundabout. You will enter the law school parking lot.
For those who plan to drive to the conference, there will be limited parking available on the Law School campus. Arrive early to ensure a spot. Additional parking is available in the Griswold parking lot on the undergraduate campus - please follow the signs directing you to the overflow parking area. The Griswold lot is a 5-10 minute walk from the law school.
Parking is free for conference attendees. Reserved parking for disabled visitors is distributed throughout campus lots. For conference attendees planning to visit campus before or after the conference weekend, please note that parking permits are required Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Parking is only free after 7 p.m. weekdays, as well as on weekends
The Paramount Hotel
We have a room block reserved at The Paramount Hotel for conference attendees. The Paramount hotel is a lovely, boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Portland, within walking distance of the Portland Art Museum, the Benson Hotel (where our Friday Welcome Reception will be held), Pioneer Square, MAX line, and numerous restaurants and theaters. Our special group rate for the hotel’s Deluxe Rooms is $139/night plus 12.5% tax. Each room includes 1 King or 2 Queen beds, a private bathroom, complimentary high-speed internet access, a TV, personal refrigerators, two telephones and two phone lines, voicemail, a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, and more. Valet parking for our group at The Paramount Hotel is $28/night and allows cars to come and go unlimited times within a 24-hour period. There are also several parking lots within one block of the hotel which offer less expensive rates but do not have in and out privileges. Street parking is also readily available for $1.60/hour and is free between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m.
The Mark Spencer Hotel
There is a room block at The Mark Spencer Hotel for conference attendees. The Standard Guest Room rate ($99/night plus 12.5% hotel tax) includes: a spacious room with a queen bed, fully equipped kitchen, full size bathroom, daily continental breakfast, New York Times newspaper, Wi-Fi, Fitness Center access, afternoon tea and cookies and evening wine reception. Laundry room and dry cleaning services are available at an additional fee. The guestrooms and value added amenities, set against the backdrop of Portland’s Pearl District, offer a positive environment in addition to a wealth of activities which are just steps outside of your room. The Hotel is located on the Portland Street Car Line and two blocks away from Portland’s Max Light Rail System. Garage parking is available at The Mark Spencer Hotel for $18/night with in and out privileges. It is best to call the hotel in advance to reserve a parking space as their garage and open-air lots tend to sell out. Street parking is also available for $1.60/hour and is free from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
