Supporting Business Law and Innovation

The Center for Business Law and Innovation at Lewis & Clark, encompassing our entire business law program, trains students in both law and strategic analysis, giving them the skills to support innovation efforts in the businesses they will serve.
Learning takes place both in classroom settings and in experiential workshops and events. These activities are inspired and led by Portland-area business leaders from multinational corporations such as Intel, Nike, and Adidas, and by start-up and midsize businesses within Portland’s premier industries, such as technology and food. Students intern and extern with the many entrepreneurial businesses that have grown in the Portland innovation culture.
Our two business law clinics, the Small Business Legal Clinic (SBLC) and the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC), work with underserved individuals and entrepreneurs.
These efforts are supported by leaders in the business community, and would not be possible without their financial support and program participation.

From the Dean
Speaking with students is one of my favorite parts of being dean. At Lewis & Clark Law School, I’ve discovered a rare and powerful combination: students who pair fierce dedication to their mission with deep collaboration and a genuine commitment to each other’s success.

Legal Expertise Supports Migratory Species
Professors Chris Wold and Erica Lyman facilitated a workshop with CMS Parties to discuss the legal contours of some of the treaty’s most important provisions.

Beyond the Bar
Most graduates of law school go on to practice law, working in law firms or providing legal counsel to organizations and businesses. Yet, for some, the lessons of law apply more broadly, and the outcome of their law school education has been a surprising and successful career outside of law. Here are just a few of our alums who followed an alternative route.
