Casey Bage ’23 Selected as 2023 Williamson Award Recipient
Class of 2023 graduate Casey Bage will be recognized at the 35th Annual Environmental Distinguished Visitor Event and Lecture on September 20.

Casey Bage ’23 has been selected as the 2023 Williamson Award Recipient. He will be presented with the award at the 35th Annual Environmental Distinguished Visitor Event Lecture on Sept. 20.
The Williamson Award honors Professor Bill Williamson, who was instrumental in launching the environmental law program at Lewis & Clark by co-founding the Northwest Environmental Defense Center (NEDC), starting Environmental Law Review, and teaching the first environmental law class at Lewis & Clark. Every year, the award is given to an environmental alum who has demonstrated leadership, creativity, vision, and commitment in the field of public interest environmental law. The award, which provides $1,000 for the new graduate to assist in their new career, is funded by the Environmental Alumni Association. Bage is the 22nd annual recipient of the award.
Before attending law school, Bage earned a BA in Politics and Policy and an MBA in Sustainability from Willamette University. While at Lewis & Clark, Bage volunteered with NEDC as a project coordinator and was Managing Editor of Environmental Law Review (ELR) and an Officer for Students Eliminating Environmental Discrimination (SEED). In 2021 and 2022 respectively, Bage clerked for the Green Energy Institute and Earthrise Law Center. He also was selected as a Wyss Scholar in 2022 and focused his work on natural resources and public land issues.
“Every day I work to make our world more sustainable, equitable, and beautiful,” said Bage. “Earth’s wild places and the biodiversity within them are inexorably linked to ourselves and our success. My future will be devoted to advocating on behalf of those lands and creatures, ensuring that a flourishing world is left behind in my stead.”
