Legal Research Resources

Here you can find some resources to help you get started with legal research and develop good research habits.

For starters, you need good research strategies. On our Research Strategies page, you can get a view of the big picture of how you go about research.

Next, it’s a good idea to know what resources are available to you, what they do, and how to use them effectively. Simply put, before you can effectively research online, you need to be able to think in book. Our Anatomy of a Citation page will help you get an idea of what the various parts of case and statute citation are and, in doing so, give you some good insight into how to effectively search through those resources.

Finally, when it comes time to constructing your search, you are going to need to know how to best do that. Check out our Terms and Connectors page to get a better idea of how to take big ideas and turn them into effective searches.
