Co-DirectorKelly LaToza Levenda

Kelly is a 3L from Chicago that came to Lewis & Clark Law School to study animal law. She has taken part in Animal Law Reviewas a Source Checker and Associate Editor, and currently clerks for the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Animal Law Program. Kelly is particularly interested in farmed animal protection, promoting veganism, and educating the public and attorneys about animal law. Kelly loves spending time with her husband, two cats, Mori and Ollie, and Border Collie, Bernie.

Co-DirectorTaylor Duty

Taylor is one of the few true Portland natives and was born and raised a stone’s throw from Lewis & Clark Law School.  When not in school she enjoys running, cooking, reading trashy sci-fi novels and playing with her dog and three chickens. She is particularly interested in the modern commercial farming and food industry and the way that animals are selectively commodified on a global scale.  She hopes to incorporate this interest into some form of litigation work and to join the campaign to make criminal laws more effective for animals.

Project Coordinator ChairDiane Lenkowsky

Diane hails from sunny Arizona and moved to Portland to start law school with her boyfriend and their two rescue animals, Thumbs and Mylie. When she’s not at school, she’s typically cooking, singing, doing yoga, or finding new vegan restaurants and food carts in the Portland area.

Pro Bono ChairMelissa Young

Melissa is a second year law student and worked as a veterinary technician for five years before coming to Lewis and Clark. This year, she will be serving as Form and Style Editor for Animal Law Review. She worked as a legal extern for the Equal Justice Alliance during the summer of 2012. In her free time, she loves going out for delicious vegan food, volunteering as a caregiver at Animal Aid, and spending time with her husband and four cats.

Outreach Chair:  Mitzi Bolanos

Mitzi is part of the first Animal Law LLM class at Lewis & Clark.  She moved to Portland with her rescued pit-bull type dog, Bubba, who has inspired her to use her legal career to advocate against breed discriminatory laws and other forms of breed discrimination.  Shortly after moving to Portland, she began volunteering with Washington County Animal Services in a pilot program to rehabilitate and rehome a group of pit bull type dogs seized as evidence in an animal cruelty case.  There is still too much that Mitzi would like to see and do in Portland before she graduates in May.

TreasurerLauren McDonald

Lauren has always loved animals since an early age.  She has been vegan for over five years and loves to cook.  In her spare time, Lauren enjoys spending time at home with her partner, cat, and two rabbits, playing video games, eating, and watching the squirrels on her back porch.  Some of her major accomplishments include watching an entire season of 24 in one day, and being on TV for being entirely too good at singing in a fake rock band.

SecretaryLora Dunn

An East Coast native, Lora is now a Portlander at heart and a 3L focusing on Animal Law.  She has been fortunate to clerk for the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Criminal Justice Program and to intern at the Oregon Humane Society.  She enjoys yoga, hiking, teaching piano, and impromptu trips to the coast.
