This scholarship honors Mark Riskedahl, JD ’00 who first became involved with the Northwest Environmental Defense Center (NEDC) as a law student, serving as the NEDC law clerk, a project coordinator, and a student director. Following graduation, Mark significantly strengthened NEDC’s capacity to protect the environment and natural resources of the Pacific Northwest by becoming the organization’s first full-time executive director, a role which he held for two decades from 2001-2021.
The Mark Riskedahl NEDC Scholarship is awarded to an upper division student who has demonstrated:
- A commitment to advocating for the environment and/or communities affected by environmental degradation
- Financial need
- Academic achievement
- Experience embodying and encouraging NEDC’s values and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion which are reflected in NEDC’s DEI statement
