Elizabeth Schmitt ’18 is an Enforcement Attorney in the Securities Division of the Arizona Corporation Commission. In this position, she works with investigators and forensic accountants, directing investigations and reviewing evidence to litigate administrative and civil matters under the Arizona Securities Act and the Investment Management Act. These matters include claims of financial fraud and securities registration violations. She secured this position after gaining valuable experience at the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office as a Deputy County Attorney prosecuting felony cases. In the almost two years she worked as a DCA, she served as first chair on six jury trials and thirteen bench trials.

In law school, Elizabeth was the VP of Programming for the Student Bar Association her 2L year and a member of the Lewis & Clark Law Review, serving as editor in chief her 3L year. Her curricular interests were diverse and included not only business law but also criminal and international law. During her 2L and 3L years, she served as an extern at the Washington County District Attorney’s Office and served as first chair on two jury trials and eleven bench trials.

Outside of work, Elizabeth serves on the State Bar of Arizona’s Young Lawyers Division Board and teaches ballet and aerial arts classes. Elizabeth earned her BA from the University of Arizona (2014). She graduated with her JD from Lewis & Clark Law School (2018).
