Admissions Interviews

In an effort to learn more about our applicants, Lewis & Clark has implemented an interview program for applicants in order to enhance our holistic admissions review process. The purpose of the interview is to evaluate a candidate’s communication skills, maturity, interest in and preparation for law school, and to assess one’s fit with Lewis & Clark Law School.

Interviews are by invitation only. Due to the high volume of applications we receive, we are unfortunately unable to offer interviews to all applicants.

How will I know if I’ve been selected for an interview?

If selected for an interview, you will receive an invitation via email within 3-4 weeks of submitting your application, with instructions on how to schedule your interview.

Are interviews required?

Although we strongly encourage you to interview, they are not required. Interviews provide an opportunity for applicants to make a personal connection during the application process. They also allow the admissions committee to more thoroughly assess an applicant’s communication skills, maturity, interest in and preparation for law school, and fit with the Lewis & Clark Law School community.

What do I do after I have received an invitation?

After you receive your invitation, you will have 48 hours to contact us to get an interview scheduled. Your interview itself, must be scheduled within the next three weeks. We simply want you to get something on the calendar so that we know you intend to interview.

If you do not contact us within 48 hours of receiving the invitation, then your application will be sent to the admissions committee for review without an interview.

Does my file need to be fully complete before I interview?

No, however we must have an LSAT score.

What if I can’t come to campus to interview?

Interviews can be conducted in person on campus, via Skype, or over the phone.

When are interviews held?

Interviews are conducted every day of the week. Monday through Friday, interviews take place during regular business hours, Pacific coast time. We also offer limited hours on Saturdays and Sundays.  Interviews typically start in October and occur through March.

What if I am not selected for an interview? Can I request one?

Interviews are by invitation only. If you aren’t selected to interview, it does not mean you will not be admitted, nor does being selected for an interview guarantee admission.

Who will be conducting the interview?

Interviewers are either admissions directors, alumni, or other representatives of the law school who are also able to answer questions you might have about Lewis & Clark.

How should I prepare for the interview?

You should be prepared to discuss items included in your application file (including your resume, personal statement and transcripts).  The interviewer may ask about your career goals, your interest in Lewis & Clark, and your background and experiences, among other things. You should be professional, but remember to also be yourself.

What happens after the interview?

The admissions representative will write up a summary of the interview which will be attached to your application file for the committee to review. Once your application is fully complete, it will then be sent to  the Admissions Committee.
