David Dobkin, an international authority on the birds and ecosystems of the Western United States, is the founder and executive director of the High Desert Ecological Research Institute in Bend, Oregon, a regional center for ecological research and policy analysis focusing on natural resource issues related to the Intermountain West and Pacific Northwest. Dr. Dobkin is the author or co-author of five major books on the ecology and conservation of birds. He worked as senior ecologist at Stanford University’s Center for Conservation Biology in the 1980s and serves on several national and regional scientific advisory teams.
