Animal Legal Defense Fund

The history between the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) and Lewis & Clark Law School is long and rich with both institutions acting as leaders in the animal law field. For this reason, it made perfect sense for ALDF and Lewis & Clark Law School to join forces in 2008 through the creation of the Center for Animal Law Studies, a first-of-its-kind venture. CALS is proud to work in collaboration with the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Lewis & Clark law students reap the benefit by enjoying access to world-class animal law practitioners, scholars, and programs.

Africa Animal Law Collaborative

The Center for Animal Law Studies and the Alliance for Human Animal Coexistence have created the Africa Animal Law Collaborative, a strategic initiative designed to cultivate, connect, and sustain a new generation of animal-law leaders dedicated to protecting Africa’s animals, while strengthening long-term institutional collaborations between African and North American animal-law advocates. The Collaborative is committed to advancing comprehensive legal protections for all animals across the African continent, including terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, companion animals, and farmed animals. Lawyers for Animal Protection Africa and Animal Law Reform South Africa, African partner nonprofit organizations founded by Lewis & Clark Law School animal law alumni, will serve as senior advisors and regional implementing partners.
