A large group of Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS) faculty, staff, and students has recently returned from the 26th Annual Animal Law Conference in Chicago, Illinois. The Animal Law Conference is an annual event hosted by the Center for Animal Law Studies, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, and the Lewis & Clark Student Chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund. CALS faculty, staff, and students participated at every level of the conference from serving on the planning committee, to moderating panels, speaking on panels, and volunteering to ensure the success and continued growth of the event.

This year’s event focused on farmed animal issues and featured keynote presentations from Seth Tibbot (Chairman and Founder, The Tofurky Company) and Jo-Anne McArthur (Photojournalist, Author & Educator, We Animals), as well as speakers from institutions and organizations such as Farm Forward, The Good Food Institute, the Environmental Law Clinic at Columbia Law School, and many more.

Next year, The Center for Animal Law Studies, the Animal Legal Defense Fund, and the L&C Student Chapter are delighted to be hosting the 27thAnnual Animal Law Conference back in Portland, Oregon at the Portland Art Museum.
