The Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS) at Lewis & Clark Law School is the global leader in animal law education. February 1st is the deadline to apply for the Fall 2024 semester for in-person study at our beautiful campus in Portland, Oregon, for our three advanced degree programs – Animal Law LLM (for lawyers), Master of Studies in Animal Law (MSL) (for non-lawyers), and Doctor of Juridical Science in Animal Law (SJD). Animal Law LLM
Our post-JD or post-LLB master of laws Animal Law LLM is designed for U.S. and international law school graduates who want to focus on animal law in practice, teaching, research, or public policy. Our Alumni-in-Action are working to protect animals and doing so in an array of settings. Be sure to check out our premier Brooks Fellowships which provide a full-tuition scholarship and generous living stipend, as well as the opportunity to engage in for-credit fellowship work. Animal Law MSL
Non-lawyers have an important role to play in advancing protections for animals. Our Animal Law MSL degree is for both U.S. and international students with a Bachelor’s degree who want to focus on animal law in advocacy, academia, research, public policy, and more. Animal Law SJD
The equivalent of a PhD in legal education, our Animal Law SJD degree is designed to equip LLM degree holders with the advanced research skills, program structure, academic, and experiential opportunities necessary to become the next thought-leaders, educators, and scholars who will shape animal law and public policy. The Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS) was founded in 2008 with a mission to educate the next generation of animal law advocates and advance animal protection through the law. With vision and bold risk-taking, CALS has since developed into a world-renowned animal law epicenter. CALS’ Alumni-in-Action from over 25 countries are making a difference for animals around the world. CALS is a nonprofit organization funded through donations and grants.
