Become a CALS Ambassador: Apply Now!

We are pleased to announce a new application window for our Global Ambassador Program (GAP). Applications are due by September 15, 2025.

The GAP empowers and supports our alumni as they cultivate animal law education and advocacy through projects they design and carry out during their GAP year. Alumni selected as CALS Ambassadors will receive a grant of up to $5,000 to support their proposed project. Grants are provided by CALS through donor support.

The GAP was launched in 2020 and has supported 17 alumni from 13 countries to date. Previous CALS Ambassadors have chosen a rich variety of animal law projects to focus on during their GAP year, including: outreach to raise awareness about farmed animal protection, developing and teaching new animal law courses, creating webinars to share global animal law developments, preparing compendiums of animal law, founding new nonprofit organizations, building stakeholder collaborations, strengthening animal protection laws, implementing innovative approaches to combating animal cruelty, and more. This fifth round of the GAP calls for proposals of all varieties, with priority given to projects from new applicants, those focused on aquaculture, and those that will create impacts for animals in regions where GAP funding has not yet been directed. To qualify, applicants must be a Lewis & Clark Law School alum by September 1, 2025 with one of the following degrees: Animal Law LLM, Animal Law MSL, or JD with an Animal Law Certificate.

The Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS) was founded in 2008 with a mission to educate the next generation of animal law advocates and advance animal protection through the law. With vision and bold risk-taking, CALS has since developed into a world-renowned animal law epicenter. CALS’ Alumni-in-Action from 30 countries are making a difference for animals around the world. CALS is a self-funded Center within the law school operating under the Lewis & Clark College 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, and is able to provide these educational opportunities through donations and grants.
