Protecting Africa’s Animals: Full-Scholarship Opportunities Now Available

A powerful new opportunity is now open for animal advocates ready to deepen their impact to protect animals across Africa.

The Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS) at Lewis & Clark Law School and the Alliance for Human Animal Coexistence, along with Lawyers for Animal Protection in Africa and Animal Law Reform South Africa, are delighted to announce a new scholarship opportunity designed to advance animal law and animal protection across Africa. This exciting new initiative provides up to three full-tuition Animal Law MSL and LLM scholarships annually over the next three years for emerging and established advocates committed to advancing animal protection across the African continent.

These scholarships provide the opportunity to pursue an advanced degree in animal law from Lewis & Clark Law School, which offers the world’s first and longest-running animal law program. This is more than an academic experience; it is an invitation to join a global network of leaders shaping the future of animal law. With a global network of alumni, including more than 25 animal law alumni from Africa to date, applicants will enjoy a world-class education and the benefits of an established network of experienced and dedicated fellow advocates already advancing progress for animals across Africa.

The animal law advanced degree program provides the opportunity to study on campus at Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, or online, through a fully asynchronous format, making pursuing the advanced degree within reach while also honoring existing professional or personal commitments. The application deadline is June 1st to start this fall in the online advanced degree program, or to start this fall in the in-person program for U.S. applicants. (Please note that due to visa processing times, the in-person program application deadline for international applicants passed on April 1st).

We are seeking individuals who are ready to lead. We are looking for advocates who see Africa not as a peripheral participant in animal law and animal protection, but as a source of innovation, leadership, and deeply rooted legal perspectives that can transform the field globally.
