Mundondo Joseph Zanorashe is a Registrar of the High Court of Zimbabwe, where he has risen through the judicial service from Magistrate to Provincial Magistrate and now to his current leadership role. Over the course of his career, he has presided over thousands of cases, including many involving animal law violations, giving him firsthand experience in the urgent need for stronger protections for animals and the environment.
Beyond the bench, Mundondo has contributed to shaping the next generation of legal professionals. As a junior lecturer at the University of Venda, he has trained and mentored young lawyers, combining academic rigor with practical insights from the courtroom. He also leads Spirit Life Foundation, an organization he founded to promote child welfare, climate justice, and poverty alleviation thus impacting thousands of vulnerable people in Zimbabwe.
Mundondo is deeply honored and excited to be part of the program, which aligns perfectly with his passion for advancing animal protection and broader social justice. His long-term vision is to channel his legal expertise and leadership to reshape laws, champion animal rights, cultivate sustainability, and weave ecological justice into the fabric of national and regional legal systems. He also envisions establishing animal law centers across the SADC region to empower youthful advocates and expand awareness of animal rights as a pillar of justice.
“Laws without justice are meaningless; justice without compassion is incomplete. I believe, like Thomas Jefferson, that the law must bend toward creating a freer, fairer, and more sustainable world. Justice is not to be curtailed but expanded beyond humanity to protect all living beings.”
