Anlis Mercado Rios obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of Puerto Rico School of Law in 2024 and recently passed the Puerto Rico Bar. She served as the spokesperson for the National Organization for Animal Rights in Puerto Rico from 2023 to 2024 and completed a spring 2024 externship with the Animal Legal Defense Fund. During law school, she successfully advocated for the expansion of an Animal Law course at the University of Puerto Rico, transitioning it from a winter session to a full semester offering.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Services (Child, Adult, and Family Services), with minors in Psychology and Latino Studies, from Iowa State University, where she focused on supporting victims of domestic violence and immigrant families.

Anlis is a passionate advocate for animal rights and marginalized communities, actively participating in animal rescues and community care initiatives. Her commitment to justice and advocacy extends beyond legal practice: “I am dedicated to giving voice to those who cannot speak for themselves—both humans and animals alike.” Her professional and personal pursuits reflect a deep-seated dedication to promoting welfare, equity, and rights for both people and animals.
