Animal Law Teaching Fellow

Biography

James Schultz is an Animal Law Teaching Fellow for the Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS), where he supports the Animal Law LLM and MSL degree programs, contributes to both online and in-person courses, and mentors students outside the classroom.

Before joining CALS, James worked as a government instructor at a community college in Texas, a graduate philosophy teaching assistant in Ohio, and as a county-level public defender in Indianapolis. He has taught U.S. Government, Texas Government, Introduction to Political Science, and assisted with Ethics, Introduction to Philosophy, Medical Ethics, and Logic.

In law school, James served as president of his school’s Animal Legal Defense Fund student chapter and as a commissioner on the Bloomington Animal Control Commission, where he advocated for a city ordinance banning the retail sale of cats and dogs.

His writing has been published in the animal ethics journal Between the Species. and in one of Ohio’s largest newspapers, The Plain Dealer (click here and here).
