Elena Tyler

United States
Online MSL Candidate ’28

Elena Tyler is an animal welfare advocate whose experience spans veterinary medicine, animal rescue, sanctuary care, environmental conservation, and legislative advocacy. Her work caring for animals and advocating for stronger protections has shaped her interest in using law and policy to address systemic animal welfare issues.

Since 2020, Elena has worked as a veterinary assistant at a nonprofit spay and neuter clinic, providing accessible veterinary care to cats and dogs. This experience has given her firsthand insight into the importance of accessible veterinary services, preventing unwanted litters, and reducing shelter intake.

Elena has also worked directly with animals in shelter and sanctuary settings. As a 2026 Animal Care Intern at The Barn Sanctuary, she provided daily care for rescued farmed animals, while her shelter volunteer work includes caring for adoptable dogs and promoting humane education. She also supports dog owners at risk of surrendering their pets by providing food assistance to help keep animals in their homes.

In 2026, Elena led an advocacy campaign that resulted in the unanimous passage of a municipal ordinance prohibiting the retail sale of dogs and cats in pet stores while encouraging partnerships with shelters and rescue organizations. She researched comparable legislation, prepared advocacy materials, collaborated with government officials, and participated in public meetings throughout the legislative process.

Elena currently volunteers with Humane World for Animals, supporting animal protection campaigns through grassroots lobbying, legislative engagement, public outreach, and community organizing.

She earned a BA in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Naturalist Studies, graduating with high distinction in 2025. She is pursuing the Master of Studies in Animal Welfare Law to combine her practical animal-care experience with legal research, policy, and advocacy skills and build a career advancing meaningful, lasting protections for animals.
