Alexis is a nonprofit leader and animal welfare advocate with more than a decade of experience building mission-driven programs, strengthening community partnerships, and expanding access to resources for animals and the people who care for them.

Since 2016, Alexis has served as Executive Director of Big Lake Humane Society and Big Lake Community Animal Clinic in Muskegon, Michigan. During her tenure, she has led the organization through significant growth while overseeing fundraising, grant writing, donor development, strategic planning, community engagement, and program development. One of her most significant initiatives was leading the vision, planning, and launch of Big Lake Community Animal Clinic which provided affordable veterinary care for her community and local shelters.

Alexis is passionate about developing solutions that address the underlying challenges facing animals and their families. Her work has included creating partnerships with correctional facilities, assisted living communities, local businesses, and other animal welfare organizations, as well as developing community programs such as a pet food pantry. Her animal welfare experience has also extended nationally through work with the BISSELL Pet Foundation, where she has participated in emergency transports, crisis response, and shelter capacity-building efforts across the country.

Beyond animal welfare, Alexis is co-owner of EJS Commercial Cleaning and serves on the board of the LeBel Foundation, where she helps review grant requests supporting animal welfare organizations.

Alexis holds a Bachelors in Public and Nonprofit Administration from Grand Valley State University and an associate degree in Business from Muskegon Community College. She is particularly interested in the intersection of nonprofit leadership, animal advocacy, public policy, and law. She hopes to continue expanding the ways she can advocate for animals, strengthen organizations and create lasting change for animals and the people who love them.
