SV Perry

United States
In-Person SML Candidate ’27

Perry’s six years of animal husbandry experience, inside and outside of the biomedical research system, has shaped and motivated their passion for animal welfare. Through Lewis &Clark’s MSL program, they hope to advance their specialization in welfare for animals within the biomedical research system and improve the lives of all animals involved.

Before starting their master’s in animal law at Lewis & Clark, Perry spent time working in a research lab at Stanford University that studies aging through the use of the African Turquoise Killifish, the shortest-lived vertebrate in captivity. While they made a great model for studying aging, Perry observed that the welfare standards for aquatic animals in research were limited. They were able to significantly improve the welfare of the animals in their lab through the introduction of a variety of new enrichment and now hope through the MSL program to build their expertise in the area and improve welfare on a policy level.

In their personal life, Perry is a big animal lover and long-time pet sitter. They have a pet bearded dragon that they love very much and hope to add more animals to their family soon. Their hobbies include running, crochet, and enjoying live music.
